ROHM has developed a new high voltage Hall IC product BD5310xG-CZ BD5410xG-CZ series for automotive applications

    The globally renowned semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) has developed a new Hall IC "BD5310xG-CZ/BD5410xG-CZ series" for automotive applications that use magnetic field detection.
    In recent years, with the development of electrification and high-performance in automobiles, as well as the improvement of comfort and safety, the application of electronic products in automobiles has become increasingly widespread. The ECU (electronic control unit) and accompanying sensors that control these electronic products have become indispensable components. In sensor products, Hall IC can perform position detection and motor rotation detection in a non-contact manner. Compared with mechanical switches, it has many advantages such as less wear, small size, and can be equipped with protective circuits, making it particularly widely used. ROHM combines the advantages of Hall IC technology accumulated over the years in the fields of mobile devices and consumer electronics with high voltage withstand processes to develop Hall ICs that can improve automotive reliability.
    This series of products adopts a high voltage withstand process, achieving industry ultra-high voltage withstand of 42V. It can also be connected to a primary power supply (directly connected to a 12V battery), which helps to improve the reliability of the product when using a battery power supply that is easily affected by the situation and fluctuates sharply. In addition, the voltage range of this series of products is as wide as 2.7V to 38V, suitable for various applications. Moreover, by adopting ROHM‘s own internal topology structure, the power consumption is reduced by about 20% compared to ordinary products, achieving an industry ultra-low current consumption of only 1.9mA. This series of products not only meets the requirements of the automotive electronic product reliability standard "AEC-Q100" (Grade1), but also includes various protective circuits required for on-board applications.
    The BD5310xG-CZ/BD5410xG-CZ series has two series of products: unipolar detection * 1 type BD5310xG-CZ and alternating detection * 2 type BD5410xG-CZ. Customers can flexibly choose according to their usage. There are a total of 11 models in the product lineup, which can detect magnetic flux density * 3 between 2.0mT and 28.0mT. The unipolar detection type is very suitable for position detection applications such as door opening and closing and door locks, while the alternating detection type is very suitable for rotation detection applications of various motors used in power windows and sliding doors.
    In the new products, the unipolar detection type "BD53103G-CZ/BD53108G-CZ" and the alternating detection type "BD54102G-CZ" have been temporarily put into mass production at a monthly production scale of 1.5 million units starting from June 2023 (sample price of 300 yen/unit, excluding tax). In addition, corresponding products have also started to be sold in e-commerce, and can be purchased from e-commerce platforms such as Ameya360.
    In the future, ROHM will continue to expand its sensor IC product lineup suitable for automotive applications, contributing to improving the reliability and performance of automobiles.
