Toshiba launches an intelligent gate driven optocoupler, which helps simplify the peripheral circuit design of power devices

    Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Co., Ltd. ("Toshiba") announced the expansion of its smart gate drive optocoupler product line, launching a smart gate drive optocoupler with an output current of 2.5A - "TLP5222". This is an isolated gate drive IC that can provide overcurrent protection for power devices such as MOSFETs or IGBTs, with built-in protection operation automatic recovery function. The product will start shipping today.
    TLP5222 continuously monitors the drain source voltage (VDS) or collector emitter voltage (VCE) of the power devices it drives. The built-in overcurrent detection and protection function can detect any VDS or VCE rise caused by overcurrent in the power device and perform soft shutdown.
     In addition, this new type of optocoupler also has an automatic recovery function built-in, which triggers a protection operation of 25.5 μ Reset the optocoupler to its normal operating state (typical value). This simplifies the sequence settings in the controller. It also integrates isolation fault state feedback function, which can send fault signals to the controller once overcurrent is detected. At the same time, the active Miller clamping function can prevent short circuits in the upper and lower bridge arm power devices [3], helping to simplify design and reduce external circuits.
    At the same time, TLP5222 adopts SO16L packaging, which can ensure a minimum creepage distance of 8mm and electrical clearance, suitable for equipment that needs to achieve high insulation performance. In addition, its rated operating temperature range is -40 ℃ to 110 ℃, suitable for various applications in harsh temperature environments, such as photovoltaic power generation systems and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
    This series of products also includes TLP5212, TLP5214A, and TLP5214. These three products do not have built-in automatic recovery function, but they can also be reset back to normal operation by inputting LED signals. Users can choose suitable products based on specific usage conditions.
