EU will unify the charging interface of portable intelligent devices

Time:2022-10-23 Views:1638
The European Parliament passed a new regulation on October 4, requiring that all new mobile phones, tablets and other portable smart devices use the USB Type-C charging interface from the end of 2024.
The European Parliament passed the bill on unifying the charging interface of portable intelligent devices with 602 affirmative votes and 13 negative votes on the same day. All mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, earphones, portable speakers, handheld video game consoles, e-readers, keyboards, mice and portable navigation systems will have unified charging interfaces within two years.
Over the years, the charging interfaces of the above devices are various, including USB-A, Mini USB and Micro USB.
However, the date of unified charging interface for notebook computers is later. All USB Type-C interface chargers will be used from 2026.
Supporters believe that the unified charging interface will provide convenience for consumers and reduce costs.
Apple is expected to be one of the most affected enterprises. The new regulations will force the company to give up using Lightning interface and use USB Type-C interface already used by many competitors. However, Reuters reported that the new EU regulations may also have a positive impact on Apple, or may promote consumers to buy new Apple products using USB Type-C interface.
The European Union began to promote the unified charging interface of portable intelligent devices many years ago, but Apple did not buy it, believing that this would hinder innovation.
